“How you doing?” Jamel asked, standing next to me. He had a smile on his face that looked like it could stretch the length of a football field. The two of us stood in the break room in front of one of three coffeemakers. I had just finished preparing Parker’s coffee when Jamel walked up dressed in a gorgeous tailored suit. The emerald-green in the suit complimented his skin beautifully. I’ll admit he looked good, but I would never have admitted that to him.

“I’m good.”

Jamel crossed his arms across his chest as his eyes traveled from my head down to my toes. “Where you been hiding?” he asked, staring at my breasts.

“Nowhere. I’ve been working,” I said with an extra hint of attitude. I didn’t want to divulge too much information in regards to my new work assignment with Parker. Plus, Jamel was out of control with his thirsty stares. I did not mind being eye candy, but Jamel was overeating.

“You wearin’ that dress,” he smiled, licking his lips.

“Don’t talk too loud. Your girlfriend might hear,” I said, nodding toward the entrance.

Elena walked in wearing a blue suit and black flats. The suit was fitted, but not too tight. Her hair was cut in layers and neatly curled. Looking closer, I noticed that she was wearing makeup. Despite my feelings toward her, I had to admit she actually looked nice.

“She’s not my girlfriend,” Jamel whispered.

“Good morning,” Elena said happily. “How are you, Jamel?” she asked, staring at him affectionately.

“I’m fine,” Jamel said coolly. “How are you?”

“Truly blessed,” Elena replied. “How are you today, Asia?” she asked, looking at me.

I hesitated slightly before replying. “I’m good, Elena,” I said slowly. “Thanks for asking.”

There were several things that caught my attention. One, Elena looked fifty times better than she usually did. Two, she called me by my first name and didn’t cringe when I called her by hers. Three, she was glowing and smiling from ear to ear. I looked from Jamel to Elena and almost choked on my own tongue. I knew the glow and the goofy-ass look Elena had stamped across her face. It was the same one I had when I was sixteen years old and lost my virginity to Corey Jackson the night of my junior prom.

“Well, I should get going,” she said, flashing Jamel a smile. “Have a good day, you two.”

“You too,” I said sweetly. Looking at Jamel, I crossed my arms across my chest.

“What?” he asked casually.

“You know what,” I whispered. “You did it.”

“Naw. I just spent a little time with her, that’s all,” he said, shrugging his shoulders. “Dinner.”

It was obvious Jamel had me fucked up with the next broad. Looking at his attire, I looked back the entrance of the break room to the spot where I had noticed Elena’s new suit. “Did she buy this shit?” I asked lowly, pointing from his head down to the gators on his feet.

His eyes shifted slightly to the left. “We went shopping together, but— ”

“Did you hit it?” I asked impatiently.
